Our Environment

The latest report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the most comprehensive look ever at the state of climate science. The full report is nearly 4,000 pages long, with 234 authors and some 14,000 citations to existing scientific studies.

It includes mountains of evidence detailing the scope of human-induced climate change and expectations of what the future might hold if greenhouse gas emissions continue to climb.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

We have identified five key points within the report that clearly show the need for urgent and widespread action.

1- It is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land.

2- The last decade was more likely than not, warmer than any multi-centennial period after the last interglacial, roughly 125,000 years ago.

3- Human-induced climate change is already affecting many weather and climate extremes in every region across the globe.

4- With further global warming, every region is projected to increasingly experience concurrent and multiple changes in climatic impact-drivers.

5- Global warming of 1.5°C and 2°C will be exceeded during the 21st century unless deep reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions occur in the coming decades.

At Uccello we’re serious about educating ourselves and adopting sustainable approaches in relation to climate change. Given that we are a manufacturer and distributor of primarily plastic and electrical daily living aids, we are acutely aware of the carbon footprint our products and packaging create.

Here’s what we’ve done and what we’re pushing to educate ourselves in, to make our world cleaner and more sustainable:

Happening Now:

  • Compliant with the WEEE directive – EU requirement.
  • Reduction of packaging (2%) per kettle has already been achieved.
  • Uccello product strategy development research program underway with National University of Ireland, Maynooth, Kildare, Ireland.
  • Financial member of Assistive Technology Suppliers of Australia (ATSA) – peak industry body.
  • Limiting the need to travel by hosting video conferences

To Do:

  • At least 30% reduction in packaging volume – in 2023
  • All packaging and inks we use are to be sourced from recycled sources – in 2023
  • At least 50% of all plastics we use to be from recycled sources – in 2026
  • At least 50% of the power supplied to our company will be from a renewable power source.
